Your data
Everything stays on the phone. That is simpler to explain than most privacy pages, and it also has consequences worth knowing.
No network, no account
The app makes no network requests at all. No analytics, no crash reporter, no sign-in, no ads, no cloud sync. The Android version ships without the internet permission. The only times anything leaves the phone are the ones you trigger yourself: sharing a morning card, sending the reliability report, or submitting the feedback page in a browser. The privacy policy is the formal version of this paragraph.
What is stored
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Alarms, custom routines | Files in the app's private container, shared with the widget |
| Bond xp, flame colour, morning history | Same |
| Dewdrops, owned and equipped pieces, seedling growth, redeemed codes (as hashes) | Same |
| Preferences, the reliability log (capped at 400 entries) | Same |
| Small flags: onboarding done, tour state, Focus settings, snooze counts, a snapshot for resuming an interrupted morning | The phone's app preferences |
| An anonymous random ID | The phone's keychain and, on iPhone, iCloud key-value storage. It is plumbing for a possible future cross-app unlock, it carries no data, and nothing reads it today. |
If a file cannot be read, Dawnling keeps a copy beside it instead of overwriting it, and the home screen says so ("Wick couldn't open a saved file. Nothing is lost.").
A new phone
There is no in-app backup or export. Your data travels with the normal phone backup:
- iPhone to iPhone through an iCloud backup, an encrypted computer backup, or Quick Start. Dawnling's files are not excluded from backup, so the room, the bond and the alarms come across. Open the app once on the new phone and it re-arms the alarms.
- Android to Android through Google's device backup, which Dawnling allows. Same first-launch re-arm.
- iPhone to Android or back: nothing carries over. The two apps keep separate files and there is no account to bridge them. A gift code can be entered again on the new platform.
Alarms are only armed on the phone where the app runs. Restoring a backup onto a second phone does not make the alarm ring on both.
Deleting the app
Deleting Dawnling deletes the alarms, the room, the dewdrops, the bond and the log. The phone also removes the alarm registrations, so nothing rings afterwards. The anonymous ID may survive in the keychain; it holds nothing.
Gift codes
Settings → About → Have a code? takes a code from a thank-you email or a tester note and puts its piece in your inventory. Case, dashes and spaces do not matter. Codes work offline, once per install, and the app stores only a hash of what you typed. The same code works on iPhone and Android, which is also the only way a gifted piece moves between platforms.
Children
Dawnling collects nothing, shows no ads and has no chat or user content, so it is rated for all ages on both stores.
